I'd Like to say a huge 'thank you' to everyone who came to the exhibition opening last night. It was really great that so many people were interested to see my work, and for those of you who couldn't make it last night the work show will run until sunday afternoon and I will be there tomorrow afternoon and most of sunday. However if there is a particular time you would like to view the work over the weekend, or are interested in buying anything from the exhibition please give me a call on 324 4343.
Photos from the event will be posted on here shortly.

About the Exhibition:

My work is inspired by everything but as in design the a whole project could be based on a small detail. This exhibition focuses on capturing the nature of water in a solid form. The sea is an important part of this Island and is what makes it both beautiful and dangerous. Ivan was a reminder that here we are at the mercy of the sea and yet it makes it a place of natural beauty and fuels our economy. Water is one of the few elements with the power to give `life and take it away and the environment in Cayman highlights the contrasts in nature, from the way the weather turns, to the haunting calm of the sea.
As a fashion designer, the human form is my main source of inspiration, and in my previous art work, it is always the human form that interests me the most because I love the challenge the shapes, proportions and detail involved bring. While researching this project I spent a lot of time looking at the body as an abstract form of expression, looking at surrealist photography such as Man Ray and Lee Miller as well as incorporating modern references like Michel Comte and Matt Collishaw.
The materials I choose to use always play a huge part in the concept of my work. For this project it was important to have a modern organic quality to the space as well as a level of transparency that would translate the feel of water. I particularly like the idea of using art in an unconventional and interactive way. The hanging glass instillation allows the viewer to walk around and look through the art work, while it in turn is affected by its surroundings as the suspension of the piece allows the image to move and change.
Finally my research diffused into more abstract images focusing on the quality of colour and intensity of light I captured underwater.
